Bill Thomas Shurtliff passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 72 in Hamer, Idaho. Born on July 31, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Rene and Lella Shurtliff, the fifth of six children. Bill lived a life marked by the love and respect of his family and friends.
Bill was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and graduated from West Jefferson High School, Class of 1969. He remained in Hamer where he raised his four children, eventually adding two stepsons to the family. He then found Cathy and they married, adding eleven more to the mix.
Bill played a strong role in the community and served in various rolls such as Mayor of Hamer and Mud Lake, was an avid Lions Club member, volunteer EMT, President of Mud Lake Ambulance, taught horse 4H, served in multiple church callings, and was an honorary member of the Verle J Skidmore VFW Post in recognition of years of service for playing Taps at numerous occasions. Bill, along with Coralle Knight, started the Annual Lions Club 4th of July Parade and fireworks celebration in Hamer.
He is survived by his cherished family members: wife, Cathy Shurtliff; children, Jason, Cher, Dan, Anthony, Chris, Ray, David, Ahtanya, Christine, Charlesa, Nathaniel, Lynda, Kellan, Alexander, Joshua, Matthew, Jeremy, and their spouses; 36 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, Rene and Lella Shurtliff; brother, Herb Shurtliff; brothers-in-law, John Rausch and Vernon Ritchie; second wife, Marsha Shurtliff; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hamer, Idaho. The family will meet with friends and family Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m. prior, both visitations will be held at the church. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery.

Wood Funeral Home East Side in Ammon, Idaho, will be assisting the family during this time.
Bill’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through the memories shared by all who knew him.
