Bill Kirchner

William Wallace “Bill” Kirchner, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 16, 2021, at his home. Bill was born September 30, 1949, in Roswell, New Mexico, to William Wallace Tiller and Harriett Elizabeth Groetsch Kirchner.  After his father’s death, his mother married Alfred Leonard Kirchner, who adopted Bill and his sisters. He grew up and attended schools in Salina, Kansas, and graduated from Salina High School. He also attended Kansas State University. Bill served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. His family has always been so proud of his service for our country. On July 3, 2004, he married Kathleen Louise Shields in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Bill and Kathy made their home in Idaho Falls where Bill worked as a computer technician at the Idaho National Lab. He had many hobbies throughout his life. He spent many weekends in his younger years skiing and golfing. Recently, he loved traveling with his love. They have been on eleven cruises together and loved to take road trips to visit friends and their grand babies. He enjoyed spending any sunny day, regardless of the temperature, in the backyard sitting on the deck tanning the “Buddha Belly.” He also loved cats and always had Ricky or Lucy curled up beside him before they went to “kitty cat heaven.” Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Kirchner of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jacob (Brianne) Kirchner of Spanish Fork, UT; three handsome grandsons; his favorite granddaughter; sisters, Carol Walters and Marty Whittington, both of TX. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 31, 2021, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Jacob Kirchner officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Air Force Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
