Beulah Leavitt Hicks, 92, of Idaho Falls passed away December 10, 2010 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born September 25, 1918 in Jameston, Idaho to James Roy Leavitt and Bertha May Arave Leavitt. She grew up in the Jameston and Taylor area and attended schools there. She was the middle child of seven children and the last of them to pass away. On August 23, 1935, she married V Morand Hicks in Idaho Falls. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on October 8, 1954. When they were first married, V worked for various farmers in the Mud Lake and Hamer areas. Prior to WWII, they moved to California where V was a dragline operator. After the war, they moved back where V farmed in the Shelley area and Beulah worked at Gene Miller Warehouse as a potato sorter. For the next twenty years, V moved around the state of Idaho and Beulah worked many places including the laundry room at the Holiday Inn in Twin Falls, and the laundry room at the American Falls Hospital. In 1978, they moved back to Idaho Falls and she retired from working outside the home. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked with the Sunday School and Primary. Just three months ago at the age of 92, she rode the white water in Glacier National Park with her son Ernest and his family. She always stayed very active. Beulah was an industrious woman and a very hard worker. She raised a huge garden and canned all kinds of vegetables and meats. She and V loved to dance and attend dances. They also liked to go camping and fishing. For 13 years, they wintered in Quartsite, Arizona. V passed away August 16, 1996. Survivors include: Son: Marvin (Krystal) Kicks, Shelley, ID Daughter: Dolores (Dale) Simmons, Roseburg, OR Daughter: Linda Smith, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Ernest (Sharla) Hicks, Anaheim, CA Daughter: Darlene (Darrell) Schumacher, Pocatello, ID 14 Grandchildren & 31 Great Grandchildren & 7 Great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Billy Smith, one sister, Dorothy and five brothers Merril, William “Tobe,” Vern, Goldie, and Jack, and two grandchildren: Lorna Hoskins and Brandon Hoskins.
Wednesday December 15, 2010 , 11:00 a.m. at Idaho Falls LDS Thayerwood Ward
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge) and 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
