Betty Ann Moran Wilde West passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls of natural causes.
Betty was born September 17, 1932, at Fromberg, Montana, the fourth of five children born to Edward Valentine Moran and Florine Augusta Kitzman Moran. In 1933, the family moved to Pryor, Montana (on the Crow Indian Reservation), where they farmed. In 1938, they moved to Billings, Montana, where she attended the 1st through 4th grades. In May, 1942, they moved to Bridger Canyon, Montana, to a cattle ranch. Betty attended 5th through 8th grades in a small country school where several grades were in the same room and had the same teacher. Bridger Canyon is where she learned to love the outdoors. You could find her riding her horse, Trixie, or fishing after her chores were done. After completing the 8th grade, she attended Gallatin High School for two years. The family then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, to manage the Motor Vu Drive-In. She was in Pep Club and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1950.
She worked in the box office at the Motor View, as a teller, bookkeeper, and salesperson. She had a daycare in her home, worked for the school lunch program, and as a cook and cashier at Mrs. Powell’s until she retired about five years ago.
Betty married Lyman P. Wilde December 26, 1951, at Idaho Falls, and they had four children, Craig, Karen, Scott, and Jill. They made their home in Ammon until they divorced and she moved to Boise in 1976. Betty met and married Waymon West in 1978. They were later divorced.
She loved living in Boise, where the winters were warmer and milder. She loved to travel and meet new people and learn all about everything. She loved the Stanley area, where she camped and hiked. She was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, teaching others new things, gardening, hiking, camping, and, most of all, dancing.
