Betty Vandewiele Sorenson

BETTY SORENSON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Mother stepped out of our world August 4, 2008. We’re sure that Grandma and Grandpa Helco were there to welcome her to the other side. What a wonderful moment that must have been. Mother wanted to be an angel. If she is assigned that role, she will be among the most beautiful and gracious of all angels. She was happy and vivacious with twinkling eyes and a good word for everyone. We love her. We will miss her. Betty Maurine Sorenson turned 78 last April 25th, but her heart was not strong enough to support her to her 79th birthday. Born Betty Maurine Helco to John Helco and Jenny Lynn Perry Helco in Heber City, Utah, she grew up in and around Vernal, Utah. She was the drum majorette in her high school band and flew all over the country with her pilot brother, Ernest Helco. Betty was just hours short of earning her own pilot’s license when she married for the first time. Betty was married to J. Ford Sorenson, of Iona, Idaho, December 23, 1977, in Idaho Falls. She was known as Betty Helco for 17 years and as Betty Vandewiele for 30 years before her marriage to Ford. Betty deeply loved her five children from her first marriage, Rob (Roxane) Vandewiele, Lynda (Mark) Nelson, Michael (Sherie) Vandewiele, Sherri (David) Jensen, and Patricia (Jerry) Cromer, 21 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren (with one more on the way). Betty did her best to help her children achieve their dreams as they grew up, left her home, and went out into the world. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her great love was teaching Primary children to sing. Betty made many lasting friendships working as a beautician in her own home in Idaho Falls and Iona. She also loved music, travel, gardening, growing flowers, making new friends, airplanes, and vacationing each year on a white sandy beach at Priest Lake, Idaho. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends today from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. --------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Billings Alfred N CTR USAF 46 TS/OGEE [Alfred.Billings.ctr@Eglin.af.mil] Please extend my condolences to the friends and relatives of Betty Sorenson. She was a special lady and a wonderful cousin. Although I was not able to visit her much or know her well, my sister (Blenda Horrocks) became close friends as they both lived in Idaho. Blenda spoke of Betty with great affection. I am sure they are enjoying a wonderful reunion. Love, Alfred Al Billings TEAS Team Qualis Contr 46 TS/OGEE, Eglin AFB, Florida 850-882-8252
