Betty Jean Kiesling, 83, a long-time resident of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rigby, ID, on February 20, 2012, with her daughters by her side. Betty was born August 19, 1928, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her parents were Otense Charlotte Rosdahl Lake and and John James Lake, Jr. She was the youngest of nine children. When she was seven years old she moved to Lava Hot Springs with her family. She had a happy childhood growing up in Lava with loving brothers and sisters. She attended all of her schooling there. On September 7, 1946, she married Roy Lynn Kiesling. They had four children – Connie, Marsha, Kenneth and Sandy. Her family was the center and joy of her life. She worked for many years as a waitress and cook at the Silver Grill Café, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and then in Pocatello at The Champ Café, Newberry's and Tough Guy Bowling Alley. Betty loved her church service in the Pocatello LDS Second Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving as a Visiting Teacher and during her life served as Relief Society President and Secretary, Cub Scout and Achievement Days leader, and as a Primary Teacher. She coordinated the baptism clothes and loved going to the temple. Betty shared with many people her interests and talents, including: decorating cakes, making gingerbread houses, scrap booking , bowling, line dancing, making and sharing her delicious pies. She loved to travel and she enjoyed the out of doors. Betty is survived by two daughters: Connie (David) Pincock of Rigby, ID; Sandy (Mike) Merrill of Idaho Falls, ID; one older brother, Melvin (Donna) Lake of Idaho Falls, ID; 15 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Doug Wood of Idaho Falls; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Kiesling of Pocatello. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lynn Kiesling; a daughter, Marsha Wood; and a son, Kenneth Kiesling. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Homestead Assisted Living and Aspen Home Health & Hospice for the love and care of their mother. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Pocatello LDS Second Ward, 135 South 7th Avenue, with Bishop Tom Bates officiating. There will be a viewing held before the service from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello.
