Click Here To View Memorial Video Betty Jean Caughie Brown, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 13, 2013. at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls. Betty was born June 3, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Richard Perry Caughie and Gwendola M. Mangum Caughie. She grew up and lived most of her life in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1955. She married William Dean “Bill” Brown March 2, 1972, in Elko, Nevada. In her younger years Betty Jean worked for Western Union. After Bill achieved complete sobriety in 1977, they went to work for the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Association (ARA), where he was a counselor and she was a cook. Bill passed away January 21, 2007. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, gambling, and watching football. Betty is survived by Son, Mark (Tina) Cruz of Salt Lake City, UT; Son, Matthew Cruz of Salt Lake City, UT; Stepson, Chris (Laurene) Brown of Salt Lake City, UT, Stepson, Blane (Patti) Brown of Salt Lake City, Stepson, Roger Brown of Salt Lake City, UT; Stepdaughter, Marsha (Doug) Curtis of Salt Lake City, UT; Brother, Richard (Jan) Caughie of Central Point, OR; Sister, Patsy (Larry) Burgess of Idaho Falls, ID; 21 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Martin Cruz, Jr., and a sister, Norma Schuldt. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, both at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
