Betty Jean Dye Anderson, 78, of Idaho Falls died July 15, 2010 at the Monticello Assisted Living Center.
Betty was born December 23, 1931 in Firth, Idaho to Arthur and Althea Dye. She had one older sister Hattie, and later their family was joined by a brother and two more sisters, Dennis, Shanna, and Beverly. She spent her childhood years growing up on the farm in lower Presto outside of Firth.
After graduating from Firth High School, she attended Ricks College and enrolled in the nursing program. The nursing program required that the students gain practical skills at local medical facilities and this is where she met her future husband, Jack Anderson who was a patient at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. They were married on September 19, 1952 and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple. They lived in Idaho Falls and raised a family of four children. She was a full time mother. Later she began working for local doctors and then spent many years nursing in the Emergency Room at the LDS hospital which later became the Riverview Hospital. She was a key part of the staff in the emergency room; providing life saving health care services to many people.
She was a member of the LDS church and served in many positions. Later in life she survived and recovered from a stroke, retired from nursing, and then served a full time medical mission in Costa Rica. She loved her mission and enjoyed sharing her experiences with others. She was a tiny lady and never weighed over 110 lbs but was spunky nonetheless. While in Costa Rica she was the intended victim of a purse snatcher but she was able to retain the purse after beating the knife wielding attacker away with her umbrella (which was not the smartest thing she ever did). After her mission she enjoyed traveling when she could. She was a grandmother and great grandmother and gained much joy from them.
Betty had many hobbies. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, skiing, and taught ski school at Kelly’s Canyon. She was an excellent seamstress, crocheted many table cloths, and was a great cook. She was never afraid of a challenge and was always learning new skills.
Survivors include her ex-husband; children, Jean (Daniel) Brown of Pleasant Grove UT, Brad (Galene) Anderson of Idaho Falls, Randon (Malane) Anderson of Idaho Falls, and Tara (Brad) Christensen of Sandy UT; three sisters, Hattie Landon and Beverly Hirschi of Chubbuck, and Shanna Perkins of Bancroft ID, and her brother Dennis Dye of Chubbuck, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
