Elisabet “Betsy” deSwart Van der Beek, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 31, 2015, at her home.
Betsy was born October 21, 1929, in , Asperen, Gelderland, The Netherlands, to Joost deSwart and Elisabet Van Groningen Schinkel deSwart. She grew up and attended schools in Holland, where she graduated from high school.
On July 2, 1951, she married Cornelis Willem Thomas Van der Beek in The Hague, The Netherlands. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple December 19, 1987. To this union were born three children, Elisabet “Elsje,” Dennis, and Yvonne. Betsy and Cor immigrated to the United States in 1953 with their baby daughter, Elsje, and made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Betsy also worked as a lab technician for Simplot and Idahoan Foods. Cor passed away April 18, 1981.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Betsy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and Dutch cooking.
Betsy is survived by
son, Dennis (Marilyn) Van der Beek of Rigby, ID;
daughter, Yvonne Fielding of Ammon, ID;
brother, Dirk deSwart of The Netherlands;
brother, Jan H. deSwart of The Netherlands;
brother, Kees deSwart of The Netherlands;
brother, Henk deSwart of The Netherlands;
sister, Margaret Pronk of The Netherlands;
sister, Jenny deBruijn of The Netherlands;
12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Elsje Fisher, a brother, Joost deSwart, and two sisters, Metje Postma and Sjaan deSwart.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 2nd Ward, 1660 – 12th Street, with Bishop Scott Earl officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
