Beth Swendsen

Beth Allen Mecham Swendsen, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at Idaho Falls Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 11, 1921 in Hyrum, Utah, to Glen N. Allen and Reta Scarborough Allen. She attended school in Franklin and graduated from Preston High School. She apprenticed in hair styling in Preston and received her diploma in Cosmetology from Idaho State University Trade and Tech. She owned and operated several beauty salons. She served as a state cosmetology examiner for two years and as a state style director for three years. She married Harold Mecham on November 15, 1940, in the Logan LDS Temple. She married Richard Cordel Swendsen on August 18, 1973 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Richard preceded her in death on October 13, 1997. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Beth enjoyed attending hair styling competitions in Idaho, Colorado and Utah. She was a Master Gardener. She enjoyed traveling, decorating and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include: Son and daughter in law: Mike and JoAnn Swendsen, Idaho Falls, ID Three grandchildren and four great grandchildren Brother: Lyle Allen Nephew: Mike and Jeff Carney Niece: Sherri Windle She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gwena Carney; first husband, Harold Mecham; and second husband, Richard Swendsen. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Ammon Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) prior to leaving for the cemetery.
