Sarah Elizabeth "Beth" Barnes, 87, of Idaho Falls passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical on September 26, 2017. Beth was born to Alfred Martin Hargrave and Anna Kenna Hargrave on May 21, 1930. She was raised in Idaho Falls where she attended Holy Rosary Grade School, O.E. Bell Junior High, Idaho Falls High School and then the University of Idaho where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Beth worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. at the Idaho National Laboratory as a teletype operator, first in Idaho Falls and then at the site when construction and roads were ready. She retired in 1988 after 37 years. Beth married Delbert J. "Deb" Barnes in 1950, they had two sons, John Patrick and James Michael and they celebrated 66 years together before Deb's death in 2016. Over the years they spent many happy summers in Island Park, ID and winters in Beaver Dam, AZ enjoying good times with family and friends. Beth loved golf, fishing, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Targhee Women's Club and the Island Park Ladies Association for which she was secretary/treasurer. Beth is survived by her son Pat and his wife Karla, son Mike and wife, Joni, her brother Kenna and wife Dorothy, sister-in-law June, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Al, Pat and Bernard. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Saturday, October 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (corner of 9th and Lee) in Idaho Falls. Interment of ashes will be in the Island Park Cemetery at a future, private family service.
