Bertha Welker - 02/23/2002 Bertha Welker - 02/23/2002 BERTHA M. WELKER IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Bertha Muir Welker, 91, of Idaho Falls, died February 23, 2002, at her daughter's home in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. She was born April 5, 1910, at Sugar City, to Walter Bassett Muir and Mary Ann Virgin Muir. She grew up and attended schools in Sugar City and Rexburg. She also attended Ricks Academy. She lived briefly in Chinook, Montana and Rexburg before moving to Idaho Falls 59 years ago. She married Samuel Jay Welker January 8, 1934, at Grant. Their marriage was solemnized March 20, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was a homemaker and mother. She also worked at Idaho Potato Growers and at the White Star Laundry Drive-In. After her retirement she and her husband worked in timber, cutting firewood to sell. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a Primary Teacher, on the Primary Stake Board, in the Young Women's program, and as a teacher and worker in the Relief Society. She served a Stake Mission with her husband. She was a Foster Grandmother for 10 years through District #91 at the grade school level and at Skyline High School. She loved gardening, flowers of all kinds, making quilts, crocheting, fishing, the out-of-doors, snowmobiling, and family history work. Surviving are:Daughter: Sophronia Ann [Roy] Bird, Idaho Falls, IDSon: Arland Lynn [Ann] Welker, Nibley, UTDaughter-In-Law: Dorine Welker, Idaho FallsBrother: Elden [Rene] Muir, Nampa, IDSister: Garnet Beardall, RexburgSister: Ethel Cloe Howard, Las Vegas, NVSister: Wilma [Ned] Brown, Plano 16 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jay LaVar Welker, four brothers, and two sisters. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Kerry L. Holmgren officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402-4092.
