Bernice Marie Johnson Sargis, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 12, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of causes incident to age. Bernice was born August 4, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Eno Julius Johnson and Lelah Mae Sample Johnson. She grew up in Eagle Rock, California, until she was about sixteen years old when the family returned to Idaho Falls. Her father came back to work for his family at Johnson Brothers Planing Mill, which is still in the family today. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She also attended University of Idaho, Southern Branch, which is now called Idaho State University in Pocatello. On November 10, 1941, she married David John Sargis at American Falls, Idaho. To this union were born four sons, David, E. J., Lindsay, & Frederic and a daughter Adrianne. Bernice and Dave made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Bernice worked as a seamstress for LeVine's Dress Shop. She also loved to sew beautiful clothing for her family, working until early morning. She attended the Swedish Covenant Church at the corner of 6th Street & Boulevard, which her father & grandfather built. She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Bernice was a lifelong Democrat. She was on the Salvation Army Board. She volunteered at the Sacred Heart Hospital Snack Bar every Sunday night for seventeen years. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, Bridge, taking naps, and her precious dogs. Bernice is survived by her son, David Leon (Arlene) Sargis of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Eno John “E.J.” (Diana) Sargis of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Lindsay Ray Sargis of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Frederic Scott Sargis of Burley, ID; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter who died at birth, daughter Adrianne Ballard, son-in-law Jerry Ballard, grandson Brian Sargis, granddaughters Heidi Sargis and Bridget Sargis, sister Mabel Johnson Grant, and nephew Larry Grant. The family suggests donations to the Bonneville County Human Society, P.O. Box 2763, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83403, www.bonnevillehumane.org, or the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, or The Salvation Army, 605 N Blvd, Idaho Falls, ID 83402, salvationarmyusa.org. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, with Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Tuesday December 17, 2013 , 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church

The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
