Bernice Darlene Krum Pierce, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 9, 2012, at the home of her daughter after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 16, 1940, to George and Katherine Nafts Krum in Billings, Montana. She was raised on a farm at Huntley, Montana; the seventh of nine children. She graduated from Huntley Project High School in Worden, Montana. Bernice attended college and received an elementary teacher’s certificate. On October 6, 1961, she married Richard L. “Dick” Pierce from Pompey’s Pillar, Montana, who also graduated from Huntley Project High School. While Dick was getting an engineering degree at Montana State in Bozeman, Bernice was teaching 4th grade at Big Timber, Montana. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in June of 1962 where Dick was employed by Phillips Petroleum at the Atomic Energy Site, now known as the INL. Together they raised two children. She will always be remembered as the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate, and loving person by all who knew her. She especially enjoyed caring for her kids, working in the yard, and being with her family. Survivors are: Husband: Dick Pierce, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Cheryl (Vaughn) Kendle, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Shawn (Kelly) Pierce, Boise, ID Grandson: Tyler Pierce, Boise, ID Brother: Clarence (Violet) Krum, Billings, MT Brother: Raymond Krum, Huntley, MT Brother: James (Jo Ann) Krum, Ballantine, MT Sister: Violet (Ronald) Blazer, Wordon, MT Sister: Gladys (Robert) Pierce, Pompey’s Pillar, MT Sister: Karen (Barry) McWhinnie, Edson Alberta, Canada Sister: Sandra Beabout, Silver Spring, Maryland Sister-in-law: Donna (Douglas) Dierenfield, Billings, MT Sister-in-law: Mavis Krum, Clovis, New Mexico Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Donald, and sister-in-law, Donna Krum. Cremation will take place and graveside services will be conducted at the Pierce Family plot in Billings, Montana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntley Project Museum of Irrigated Agriculture; P.O. Box 353; Huntley, Montana 59037.
