Bernard Donald Hunter, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on October 29, 2024, at Gables of Ammon Assisted Living. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice and his loving family.
Bernard was born April 14, 1938, in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, to Glen Dean Hunter and Clara Janisch Hunter. He grew up on the family farm in rural Wisconsin and attended school in Maiden Rock and Ellsworth.
He moved to Idaho with several of his brothers and met the love of his life, Anna Carlotta Hunter. They were married on April 20, 1959, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Bernard and Anna made their home in Idaho Falls, moved to Shelley, Idaho, in 1965, and back to Idaho Falls in 2017. They were blessed with three children, Calvin, Jeanine, and Bernadine.
During his life, he worked farming, lumberjacking, as a potato starch plant worker/manager, and in business with his son as, “Hunter’s Upholstering and Body Shop.” He was a member of River of Life Church and served on the Trustee Board for many years. Bernard learned trade skills such as electrical, small appliance repair, and welding. He applied these skills in business and helping everyone he knew. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” and could repair almost anything. He could carry on a conversation with complete strangers and he set an example with his strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, fishing, and hunting. He also participated in his church choir and prayed for his church and family regularly. He really enjoyed worrying about, spending time with, and loving his family.
Bernard is survived by his children, Calvin (Tina) Hunter of Idaho Falls, ID; Jeanine (Lee) Cadwallader of Idaho Falls, ID; Bernadine (Robert) Goddard of Somis, CA; brother, Ralph (Christine) Hunter of Shelley, ID; sisters, Linda (Dan) Weber of Maiden Rock, WI and Clarice Mercer of Nampa, ID; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 65 years; brothers, Melvin Hunter, Rex Hunter, Gene Hunter, and Gordon Hunter; sisters, Wanda Kurrelmeyer, Colleen Hunter, Delores Hunter, and Doris Hunter.
Family and friends are invited to a “Celebration of Life” on December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at River of Life Church, 525 S. Boulevard, Idaho Falls, ID 83401. The family encourages casual dress and wearing one of his favorite colors blue or green.
