Barbara Ethel Quinton Paulsen returned to her Heavenly Father Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her home in Idaho Falls, with her children by her side. She was under the excellent care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Barbara was born January 24, 1938, in Idaho Falls, to George Elijah Quinton and Florence Elizabeth Walters Quinton. She was welcomed into their home by one brother and four sisters, another brother to follow a couple of years later. Barbara grew up in a large family, where she helped with the garden and household chores. She took tap and ballet lessons and was active in the choirs. She attended Idaho Falls High School.
On February 11, 1955, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Rullen Jay Paulsen. He was tall, dark, and handsome in her eyes. They made their home in Idaho Falls and eventually bought a home in Ammon, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Rullen passed away November 21, 2012.
Barbara was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Presidency of the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s organizations. She was a cub scout leader. She was a teacher in all the organizations, which she enjoyed the most. She was also active in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, holding office there. She loved literature, reading several books a week. She was group leader of a neighborhood book club. When health permitted, she enjoyed working out in her yard, watching the growth of the flowers and garden. Her love of nature had her taking seven grandsons to Island Park with visits to Yellowstone National Park for one week yearly, making many memories there.
She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother of four, and an indulgent grandmother, who thought her posterity deserved lots of candy. Most importantly, she leaves her family with a legacy of courage, faith, and love.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, Rullen, five siblings, and a grandson, Ryan Paulsen.
She is survived by her children, LeAnn Nichols, Steven R. Paulsen, Gary L. Paulsen, and Mark J. (Brenda) Paulsen; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
