Barbara LaJune Chambers Knox, 83, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Barbara was born April 10, 1929, in Gregory, South Dakota, to Virgil L. Chamber and Leota F Bean Chambers. She grew up in Gregory, where her father owned and operated Chambers Garage and was the country sheriff, and her mother was a wife and homemaker. She was joined by a younger brother, Claude. While in high school she was a majorette with the Gregory High School Marching Band and graduated from high school in 1947. After graduation, she was Miss Gregory of 1947 and runner-up in the Miss South Dakota pageant of 1947. After high school she worked as a soda jerk at the local soda shop, and at the Rosebud Photo Shop.
On May 30, 1948, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Eugene V. Knox, upon his discharge from the U. S. Army. To this union three children were born, Kathleen Ann, James Edward, and Cynthia Jean. After Gene’s graduation from University of South Dakota, they spent a year in Ohio. Gene accepted a job in southern California in 1953. They lived in West Covina, California, until a new job opportunity took them to Fair Oaks, California, where they lived until 1969. They moved to Idaho, where they lived until 1973. Gene accepted a position in Oakland, California, and they moved to Walnut Creek, California, where they lived until he semi-retired in 1990. They came back to Idaho to retire.
Barbara was a homemaker and mother all of her life. She loved to play Bingo and she and Gene took many trips to Reno and Jackpot. Her hobby was knitting. She knit afghans and Christmas socks for all of her children; their spouses; grandchildren; and great grandchildren, until poor eyesight forced her to retire. While in Walnut Creek, California, she joined a group of women who entertained at rehabilitation centers, where she got to dance and perform. One of her favorites to sing and dance to was “New York, New York.” She loved working jigsaw puzzles and always had one going on the dining room table. She was a devoted football fan to the very last days and was so excited and happy that her 49ers were going to the Super Bowl again.
Barbara is survived by her children;
Daughter, Kathy (Glynn) Jensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho;
Son, Jim (Terri) Knox of St. Anthony, Idaho;
Daughter, Cindy (Brad) Inloes of Dublin, California;
