Audrey Stevens

AUDREY STEVENS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Audrey Winifred Christenot Stevens died peacefully in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on August 26, 2009, at the age of 97. Audrey was born January 21, 1912, to Fred Christenot and Pearl Hickey Christenot in Donaldson, Minnesota, where she lived for her first five years. She had three brothers, Ralph, Lyle “Ted”, and Orville “Chris.” She lived in Roundup and White Sulphur Springs, Montana, but resided for most of her life in Bozeman, Montana, in a home on Durston Road that she and her husband built together. In 2004, she moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, to be closer to her son, Wayne. Audrey graduated from high school in White Sulphur Springs. She was a member of Grand Avenue Christian Church in Bozeman and active in the women's organization. She was married to Warren Blanchard Stevens on June 11, 1934, and they were later divorced. They had one son, Wayne Warren, born in 1942. Audrey had many talents and hobbies. She was an accomplished seamstress and tailor. She worked with her husband in their construction business and for a short time as a professional cook. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, copper work, and fishing. Having family and friends to her home and cooking for them gave her great joy. Many happy times were spent at the family cabin in the Gallatin Canyon area, camping, and packing with horses into the wilderness areas of the Spanish Peaks. She was immensely proud of her son, grandsons, and great grandchildren and loved to spend time with them playing her favorite card game, tap rummy. She enjoyed the times with her three grandsons when they were children, playing with them and helping care for them. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by her son, Wayne, and daughter-in-law, Cherie, grandsons, Robert (Heidi), John (Lynne), Christopher, and five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brittany, Peter, Samuel, and Oriah. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to those at Lincoln Court and Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center who helped care for Audrey during her years in Idaho Falls. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Audrey's life next summer in Bozeman, Montana. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Vera LeClair Christie garylchristie@gmail.com Dear Wayne and family: I just visited with my brother, Ken, this morning and learned more about your parents. I did not remember their divorcing -- but -- Ken filled me in. I am glad that your Mom was able to be near you in her final stages. She was a remarkable woman. Alway looked to nice and well kept. I can also remember our two families spending time together. It is nice thinking back over our childhoods. My close friend, Audrey Dugdale Mehlhaff, is in Bozeman visiting from Green Valley, AZ and I have informed her of your Mom's passing also. Sometime when you are in Bozeman, I would like to be included in yours and Ken's get-together. Vera L. Christie John and Linda Crane lindajohncrane@aol.com Sorry to hear about Wayne’s mom. Our thoughts are with you. Love Linda and John
