Asencion Ybarra, Jr. or “JR," as he liked to be called, was born November 27, 1958, in Harlingen, Texas, to Asencion and Ernestina (Christina) Guajado Ybarra. He was born on Thanksgiving Day and his mom told him he was the biggest turkey she ever saw. JR was the oldest of five children.
The family moved to California before eventually settling in Idaho. First in Ririe, then Osgood, before moving "into town" (Idaho Falls). While attending grade school, JR repeated 1st grade twice because they felt he didn't speak English well enough.
As a young teen, he told his dad he wanted a motorcycle, and he got one. The next day, his father woke him early and when he asked why, his dad replied, "To move pipe. How are you going to pay for that bike without a job?”
While playing football at Eagle Rock Junior High (against his mom's wishes), he broke his ankle, resulting in several rods and pins and a permanent limp on his left leg. He also lettered in football at Skyline High School where he graduated from in 1978.
On March 10,1979, he married Vicki Roper, they were blessed with two children.
JR worked for Norton Fruit Co., Logan Farm Equipment, and for 18 years, he was employed by Pacific Steel. In April of 2023, he retired from Basic American Foods in Shelley.
He was a great cook and was trying to master the art of his new smoker. He enjoyed watching Nascar, motorcycle riding, and of course, football.
JR is survived by his father, Asencion Ybarra of San Benito, TX; wife, Vicki Ybarra of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Nathan Daniel Ybarra of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Alexis Aleice (Spencer) Lane of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Josie (Robert) Erickson; brother, Richard (Sarah) Ybarra of Florida; brother, Joe (Jennifer) Ybarra of Idaho Falls, ID; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces; dog, Harlow; two granddogs, Tauriel and Stark; and a grandkitten, Cirice.
JR was preceded in death by his mother and his younger brother, Arnold.
