Art Childs Jr.

Arthur Kay “Art” Childs Jr., 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 4, 2026, at Eagle Rock Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia.

Art was born June 30, 1945, in Butte, MT, to Arthur Kay Childs and Lorrraine Marie Barth Childs. He grew up and attended schools in Butte, MT and graduated from Butte High School.

On September 27, 1974, he married Mary Frances Hoopes in Butte, MT. Art and Mary made their home in Butte, MT where Arthur worked as a heavy equipment operator for Montana Resources.

He was a devout Catholic. He loved his God, his family, and his country with his whole heart. He served his country from 1965-1967 in the U.S. Army. He volunteered for American Legion and served as chaplain, placing white crosses for the VA on the highway. He also spent many hours volunteering at Our Lady of the Rockies and was very active in his parish community Cursillo Movement, many prayer groups, and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

He loved to gamble and he was an avid bowler in his day. He loved spending time with his family, and when he could not, he was the conference call manager and nightly schpeel giver with his sister, Regina, and daughters, Amy and Ginger.

Art is survived by his daughter, Amy Metcalf of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Ginger (Ryan) Lienemann, son, Arthur "KC" Childs, III of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Ted Childs of Spokane, WA, sister, Regina (Eric) Kaupanger of Scottsdale, AZ; grandson, Cleveland "Michael" Metcalf, grandson, Andrew Kay Metcalf, grandson, Kyle Lienemann, grandson, Tyler Lienemann, grandson, Brandon Loomis, and one great-grandchild on the way, Lily Kay Metcalf.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Childs; parents, Arthur and Lorrraine Childs; son-in-law, Mat Metcalf; and stepson, Jon Paul Loomis.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 2100 Farragut Avenue, Butte, MT.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Lady of the Rockies or Knights of Columbus Council 1663 in Idaho Falls.
