Artell Ernest Suitter, 78, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away October 13, 2016, from complications of an extended illness, at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center.
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on May 25, 1938, to Artell Suitter and Twila Empey Suitter. He attended schools in the Idaho Falls area and graduated from Bonneville High School. While attending high school, he served as sophomore, and then senior class president, and was voted most likely to succeed. Artell was an outstanding athlete. He played center for the Bonneville High School football team and he was on the wrestling team.
Artell attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho. He married Georgelean Nielsen and they had two children, Kyle Lynn Suitter and Kami Suitter Clark.
Artell worked for Stoddard Mead Ford, then spent several years farming on the desert west of Idaho Falls. He moved to Madera, California, where he was a manager of a large cattle ranch. He returned to Idaho Falls, where he married Betty Lucille Pegram Combs and moved to Boise where they were thoroughbred horse breeders, racers and owners of many noted winners, and acknowledged by the Idaho Thoroughbred Association (ITA). They won top Idaho Horse Breeder of the Year, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Suitter of Nampa; son and daughter, Kyle Lynn Suitter of Garden City, ID, and Kami Suitter (Owen) Clark of Juneau, AK; two grandchildren, Clinton Owen (Megan) Clark, Boise, ID, and Crystal April Clark of Juneau, AK; step-granddaughter, Angie Robinson of Fruitland, ID, and her children Ryan and Alex Osborn; sister, Marjorie (John) Seedall of Idaho Falls, ID; brothers, Francis (Renee) Suitter of Salt Lake City, UT, Robert (Debra) Suitter of Eagle, ID; sister, Maureen (Bob) Parks of St. George, UT; sister, Kathleen Johnson of Rexburg, ID; brother, Ray Suitter of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Delaine (Mike) Watson of Idaho Falls, ID; and sister, Deanne Samples of Idaho Falls, ID.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Artell and Twila Empey Suitter and two brothers, Richard Lyn Suitter and Dale Martin Suitter; and step-daughter, Sandra Kay Combs Applegarth.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, in Ammon Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
