Click Here To View Memorial Video Arland Marcus Purcell, 87, of Ammon, passed away January 22, 2015, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. He was under the care of his loving family and Encompass Home Health and Hospice. The family would like to especially thank his hospice caregivers, Brandy and Cindy. Arland was born July 29, 1927, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Everette Lafayette Purcell and Elmira Anderson Purcell. He grew up and attended schools in Ammon, and graduated from Ammon High School. He served in the United States Navy as an Apprentice Seaman. On June 1, 1945, he married Gertrude Warr in the Salt Lake City Utah LDS Temple. To this union were born seven children; Kaye, Kim, Julie, Kody, Iola, Lon, and Kona. Arland and Gertrude made their home in Ammon, where Arland made his living as a farmer. Gertrude passed away on November 1, 1987. On April 23, 1988, he married Colleen Wirkus in Idaho Falls. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various leadership positions. He enjoyed basketball, bowling, snowmobiling, and golfing. Arland is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Colleen Wirkus Purcell of Ammon, ID; daughter, Kaye (Bert) Rawlins of Kaysville, UT; son, Kim (Kris) Purcell of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Julie (Lee) Boren of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kody (Julie) Purcell of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Iola (Hal) Blake of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Lon (Deanna) Purcell of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Kona Purcell of Chandler, AZ; sister, Sharon Shumate of Boise, ID; 29 grandchildren and 78 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and his first wife, Gertrude Purcell. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Paul Lords officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team.
