Our sweet, beautiful mom, Ardith Mae Durrant Ritter, 89, passed away April 18, 2014, at The Gables in Ammon. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
She was born July 27, 1924, to James E Durrant and Leah Park Durrant in Ririe. As a young girl, she enjoyed riding horses and helping her dad on the dry farm at Antelope. She was raised in Ririe and on her parent's ranch.
Mom married the love of her life, Clyde Ritter, January 20, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They raised their family of seven daughters and two sons in Ririe. Clyde passed away May 10, 1986, at the age of 63. She spent the next several years helping her kids raise their children by babysitting and helping her children when they needed her.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed working in the church library and visiting teaching.
Mom and Dad went on many excursions over the years, including floating the South Fork of the Snake River, road tripping, camping with the family and fishing from the dry bed bridge. They were also able to go on a Caribbean cruise.
Mom enjoyed her career as a Hematologist and lab supervisor at Sacred Heart, later named Parkview Hospital, in Idaho Falls. She retired after 17 years to move to Price, Utah. They lived there for six years while dad worked building coal burning power plants in the Huntington Canyon and Mom was able to be a housewife. While living in Price, Mom and Dad would take two or three of their grandchildren at a time for a couple of weeks every summer, an activity the grandkids all enjoyed.
Mom loved her family more than anything, which made it very hard for her to leave us, even though her pain was so great. We couldn't ask her to stay and were able to be with her in the last moments of her time on earth.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Connie) Ritter of Benton City, WA, and Kim (Renée) Ritter of Ririe; daughters, Bernetta (Lyle) Albertson of Roberts, Brenda Berrett, Sue Hastings, Vickie (Scott) Farris, and Jill (Jerry) Dursteler, all of Idaho Falls, and Rhonda (Robert) Archer of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Norlan (Janice) Durrant of Ririe; 36 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren with four more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, her parents, her oldest daughter, Leanna (Ralph) Rowan, a son-in-law, Gary Hastings, two grandsons, Bart Berrett and Bruce Moehnke, one great granddaughter, Sarah Ritter, and one great grandson, Cyrus Dursteler, a sister, Lanona (Dawn) Blakely, and a brother, Garvin (Purlee) Durrant.
The family would like to thank all those at The Gables that treated mom with such kindness and respect while she was living there the last several months, along with those from Aspen Hospice.
