Anthony "Doc" Murphy, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 3, 2024, at Tambree Meadows Assisted Living Center. He was under the care of Brio Hospice. Anthony was born March 13, 1936, in Leeds, England, to Sydney Valentine Murphy and Ivy Murray Murphy. He grew up and attended schools in England. He moved to the United States in 1949 and graduated from Rosemead High School in California. He served in the US Army after high school as military police. He later attended the Brantridge Forest School where he earned a doctorate as a Naturopathic Doctor. On December 20, 1959, he married Virginia Williams in El Monte, California. Anthony and Virginia made their home in the central coast of California and together had three sons: James, Larry, and Tracy Murphy. He worked for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company.
He later married Janet Clausen Kortmeyer. Together they operated several retirement facilities in California and South Dakota as well as running a halfway house (New Hope 4U) for released parolees. He moved to Idaho Falls in 2017. He was a member of The Bridge Church. He previously attended Burke Baptist Church in Burke, South Dakota. He enjoyed clocks, fishing, garage sales, and playing the saw in worship services. He wrote thousands of inspiring poems, publishing them in 8 volumes of “A Chaplain’s Book of Poems, Vol 1-8,” and sent them daily to countless people around the world.
Anthony is survived by his former wife, Virginia Williams Weringer, sons, James (Carolyn) Murphy of Kuna, ID, Larry Murphy of Ventura, CA, and Tracy (Seana) Murphy of Lompoc, CA; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Janet Murphy; his father, Sydney Murphy; mother, Ivy Murphy Ward; sister, Joan Ward; and great-grandson, Titus Bowman. A memorial services will be held at Tambree Meadows, 3620 Potomac Way, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024.
