ANNA SIMPSON
IONA, ID -- Anna Burke Simpson, 84, of Iona, died January 10, 2003, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center.
She was born August 11, 1918 in Jameston, Idaho to Oscar Burke and Sarah Elizabeth Humphries Burke, the youngest of seven children. She grew up and attended schools in the area.
On June 24, 1938, she married Gabriel Marian Simpson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She was a wife and homemaker. They lived in Iona for 60 years. She was a founding member of the Iona Beautification Committee that planted many of the street side trees in Iona. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions in the church including Primary teacher, stake missionary, and visiting teacher. She enjoyed flower gardening and the outdoors. She was often seen fishing with her friends and family on the trout streams of Eastern Idaho and due to her love of “westerns” always had a Louis L'Amour book in her pocket.
Surviving are:Son: Adrian Simpson, Blackfoot, IDSon: Delhin Simpson, Ogden, UTDaughter: Ramona (Allen) Horton, Iona, IDBrother: Eugene Burke, Jameston, ID 14 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter, two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the Iona LDS Stake Center (55th East and Ririe Highway), with Bishop Mike Long of the Iona LDS 5th Ward officiating.
The family will meet with friends on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Iona Cemetery under the direction Wood Funeral Home East Side.
We're sorry to hear of Anna's passing. She was a good friend to us when we lived in Iona. She was a lovely person, and will be greatly missed.
