Anna M. Cobb - 03/22/2002
ANNA MARGARET NYEGAARD COBB
Anna Margaret Nyegaard Cobb died March 17, 2002, in Tacoma, Washington, age 96. Born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, January 12, 1906, to James Sorensen Nyegaard and Hannah Lydia Carlson.
After her father's death in 1925, she and her mother and only brother, James Harold Nyegaard came to Washington, where she met and married Harry Vincent Cobb. In 1932 they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, returning to Tacoma in 1941.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lincoln (Second) Ward. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Cobb; her grandson, James H. Cobb, whose infinite kindness, patience and compassion as her principal caregiver in later years was exemplary.
Also surviving are grandsons Kent [Merlene] Cobb of Ridgefield, Washington; Kevin [Nancy] Cobb and Kirk [Peggy] Cobb of Olympia; David S. Cobb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and granddaughter, Anita Michaels of Jacksonville, Florida, and daughter-in-law, Marie Cobb of Fort Lauderdale.
Great grandsons Kurtis [Rochel] Cobb and Jeff Truitt; great granddaughters Mallory Cobb, Erin [Casey] Taylor, Jodi Jones, Elisabeth and Cayla Michaels. And great, great grandson Cyrus Taylor.
She was pre-deceased by her husband and by her two sons, James Vincent Cobb and Harvey Nyegaard Cobb.
Anna was privileged to have a very happy childhood, growing up in a small town, surrounded by a very large extended family. When she left Idaho Falls in 1925, her heart remained and she kept close ties with her many relatives and friends, particularly the Sealander family, and her yearly visits were timed to attend the Mid-Sommer Fest at Sealander Park each June.
She was proud of her Idaho heritage. Her father was a fireman and pictures of him driving the fire horses are in the museum. Her uncle, Algot Carlson, was Chief of Police for 26 years. Her grandfather, Carl John Carlson, and several of her uncles were stone masons and built many early day lava rock buildings and churches.
Restoration of the Colonial Theatre was a joy to her and two seats are named for her and her father. A copy of a small book she wrote "Once I Knew No War" is in the Bonneville County Historical Society museum, telling about an innocent way of life that is no more.
Graveside Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402-4092. Phone: (208) 522-2751 FAX: (208) 522-5413
