IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Anna Ilse Boettcher, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 14, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center due to complications from a heart attack.
Ilse was born January 24, 1915, in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, to Alexander Franke and Anna Marie Auerbach Franke. As a youth in Germany, Ilse was in every choir which her mother directed.
She married Hans Max Boettcher in Germany in December of 1939. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Three of their children were born in Germany: Hans Joachim, Margrit Ilse, and Klaus Berndt. A fourth child, Steven Frank was born in the United States. They escaped from behind the Iron Curtain in 1952 and immigrated to Idaho Falls two years later.
Ilse loved her children, ten grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren very much and never missed sending birthday greetings to anyone. Ilse worked for the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital dietary department for 22 years. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was still singing in the choir and directing music at age 95.
She had served as ward and Relief Society Chorister and a temple worker. Ilse and her husband Hans served three temple missions: two in the Swiss Temple and one in the Freiburg East Germany temple. She loved poetry and wrote many poems for friends and family for their special occasions. She was a good swimmer, having swum across Redfish Lake and back and winning two gold medals in the Senior Olympic Games in 2006, at the age of 91. Until this past year, she continued to swim 25 laps in 45 minutes at the Aquatic Center.

I lived just a few houses down the block from the Boettcher's. Hans was my bishop during my youth. I love them both so much. I was visiting at church when Ilse turned 93 and when recognized for her birthday, she giggled that she was actually 39! A wonderful, sweet, cheerful lady, she will be greatly missed, but a tender reunion is happening with her sweetheart on the other side of the veil. My thoughts are with your family.

Dear Family,
Having lost a dear loved one in death I wanted to express not only my condolence but also share a measure of comfort with you. My family found great hope and peace by turning to our Heavenly Father. Sharing the words of Jesus Christ with others such as John 5:28,29 also helps my family maintain hope. That Jesus will resurrect our loved ones one day reminds us that life is precious. Acts 24:15 lets us know that other Christians like the apostle Paul also looked to that day. May your family find comfort and peace in knowing that God truly cares for us as is stated at 1Peter 5:7.

To all of you - we knew your sweet mother from when we were in the old 3rd Ward that was on 13th Street when we were first married 48 years ago. Your whole family was a great example to us. She was a good woman. She liked everyone. She had a determination to continually gain knowledge and she had a heart of gold and a great and warm smile. Hold on to the memories. Memories are the legacy of love. May you feel love and comfort through each other's support and knowing others care as well.

Sister Boettcher is very special to me and the ties I have with the German people, having served a mission in southern Germany. May the peace and love of our Heavenly Father be with you all at this time as her life is celebrated and the sweet reunion she is having with those who have passed on before her.

We really loved your Mom. What a great example in every way. She made everyone feel important, and you knew you were on her A list when she handed you one of her delicious candy bars from Germany. Just a week before she died, she went with Margrit and Don to tell a group of people the importance of freedom. She lived life right up to the very last moment. We will miss her. Sonja and Don Schanz
