Ann Layland - 09/28/2001 Ann Layland - 09/28/2001 ANN LAYLAND IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Sophie Ann Layland, 78, of Idaho Falls, died September 27, 2001, at her home. She was born August 22, 1923 at East St. Louis, Illinois to Mr. Durda and Caroline Chlansal Durda. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, John Ratay. She grew up in the area attending St. Adalbert’s Elementary and graduating from East St. Louis High School. She married John Miller Layland on December 27, 1943 at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and giving community service through her membership in the Eagles Lodge and the VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are:Son: Terry Layland, Idaho Falls, IDDaughter: Judith Ann Lucke, Kent, WADaughter: Ruth A. Beckstead, Idaho Falls, IDSister: Clara Rose, E. St. Louis, IL 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and two sons, Larry S. Layland and John M. Layland. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Carlos officiating. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
