Ann Itaya

Yukino “Ann” Itaya passed away peacefully on January 6, 2011 at Lily and Syringa Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. She was born March 25, 1921 in Idaho Falls, the eldest of eight siblings born to Arata and Toki Takata Mayeda. She married Frank Itaya in Kemmerer, Wyoming on February 20, 1939 and lived her entire life in Idaho Falls with the exception of a few years in Kemmerer following her marriage. She worked tirelessly her whole life, first helping with the Itaya Family laundry business in Kemmerer and later as a farmer’s wife northeast of Idaho Falls. During the time that her daughters were in school, she worked in the school hot lunch program in Ucon. She worked for over twenty years with Albertson’s in the meat department beginning at the First Street store and at the time of her retirement was at the Holmes & 17th Street location. She was a very kindhearted generous person who made friends easily and was respected by her family, friends and co-workers. She loved gardening and had an immaculate yard with beautiful flowers. She loved to share the bounties from her vegetable garden with family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family always looked forward to enjoying her delicious Japanese dishes and no one could ever leave her home without some of her homemade treats. She took great joy in her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will all miss their “Bachan”. Yukino is survived by daughters Fran Inouye of Sacramento, California and Kathy (Russ) Buckland of Idaho Falls; grandchildren Sandy (Jim Scala) Inouye and Sue (Ric Ivanisevich) Inouye of Sacramento, Bill (Valerie Haddon) Buckland of Boise, Idaho, and Becky (Jon) Bailey of Evanston, Wyoming; great grandchildren Kyra Scala, Evan Buckland, Laney Buckland, Erin Bailey, and Holden Bailey; and siblings Jeanne (Mas) Nagaki of Ontario, Oregon, Tucker (Muggy) Mayeda of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Tak (Misa) Mayeda of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Satoshi (Betty) Mayeda of San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents, brothers Isamu Mayeda and Joe Mayeda, a sister Mary Nagao, and son-in-law Henry Inouye. Special thanks to the staff at Lily and Syringa Assisted Living Center and the staff at Hospice of Eastern Idaho for their loving and compassionate care.
