Ann G. Schrader Douthett, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community.
She was born October 21, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, to George Schrader and Isabel Griswold Schrader. Her father worked for the forest service and she grew up in northern California, where she graduated at the age of sixteen from Mount Shasta High School. She then attended college at University of California at Davis. The campus was taken over by the Army Signal Corps at the start of World War II, so her formal education was curtailed. Shell Oil Company in Emeryville, California, offered a job to any Davis student majoring in chemistry, which she took. She later took a job with the Weather Bureau at Lindberg Field in San Diego. When an opening with the fire weather service opened up in Mount Shasta she moved back home to take the job.
In 1945, she married Ralph Fury and they lived on various cattle ranches in southern California. Their son, Ray Fury, was born in 1946. They were later divorced.
In 1962, Ann married James Douthett. They lived and worked in Turkey, Korea, and Vietnam until 1969. After traveling the world extensively they eventually settled in San Clemente, California, until Jim’s passing in 2008. She worked for and retired from the Orange County Library Service. In 2010, Ann moved to Idaho Falls to be near her son and his family.
Ann is survived by her son, Ray (Debbie) Fury of Idaho Falls, a stepson, Bruce (Carmina) Riling of Arizona, four grandchildren, Matt Fury, Sarah Johnson, Dillon Riling, and Trevor Riling, and three great grandchildren, Madison, Bailey, and Noah Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
