Andrew Meyer

Dr. Andrew John "Drew" Meyer, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away in the company of his family and loved ones on the evening of October 29, 2016. He had been in failing health for more than a year, but entered into the critical stage of illness six months ago, which brought his earthly life to an end. At the time of his passing he was 72 years old. Drew was born August 10, 1944, in Long Beach, California, to Henrietta Valborg-Foss and Anthony Francis "Andy" Meyer. As a young man he entered into military service in the United States Air Force and married the love of his life, Suzanne Elizabeth Van Dyke, on June 12, 1966, in Long Beach, California, at the age of 22. They were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on December 20, 1989. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary together June 12, 2016. After marrying, Drew and Sue made their first home together in Long Beach and had two children, James and David. Drew is survived by his sister, Mary Nan Meyer; his wife, Suzanne; his son, James and his wife Mary (Medford) Meyer, their children, Brandon, Kathryn, Cameron, and Preston; his son, David and his wife Jenny (Cluff) Meyer, and their sons, Caleb, Joshua, Andrew, Ian, Henry, William, and Nathan. Drew’s life work was devoted to public service in education, where he served as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and college professor. Drew had a special insight into the capacity of others. He inspired and supported the efforts of his associates to realize their gifts and talents and to become more than they thought possible. Drew set a good example to his family through adherence to the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and as long as his health permitted, regular church attendance. Much like his grandfather, he was a dutiful and loving husband, father, friend, and mentor. His religious convictions were that of trust in the crucified and risen Son of God, who came to earth to save us all. Christ was his only hope as he faced death and eternity. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who have only words of praise for him, and he will be truly missed. Services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS Taylorview Ward, 1291 West 65th South, with Bishop Scott Cook officiating. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Andrew J. Meyer Scholarship Fund in care of ISU Federal Credit Union, 2255 East Sunnyside Road, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
