IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Andree Janet Gerard Black joined our Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, after a gallant and courageous battle with Peritonitis and Cancer. True to her nature, even though her body was failing, her will, faith and strength continued.
Janet was born on July 5, 1938 to Harry C. “Jack” and Doris L. Gerard. She attended High School in Roberts, Idaho, and attended college at the University of Idaho and Northern Arizona University. She married Farrel K. “Oly” Black on September 18, 1959 in Mud Lake, Idaho. Janet had two children, Bonnie Black Wood of Boise, Idaho and Daniel F. Black of Idaho Falls, Idaho. After 16 years of farming in Hamer, Idaho, Janet moved to Idaho Falls and began a career in real estate. She had her own company and eventually retired from real estate in 2001. Janet and Oly were blessed to have her brother, Robin Gerard, enhance their lives by living with them since 1988.
Janet is survived by Farrel K. “Oly” Black, her daughter, Bonnie Black Wood; her son, Dan Black; brothers, James Harry Gerard of Basalt and Robin A Gerard of Idaho Falls; and sisters, Mary M. Wallace of Orinda, California and Jule G. Dillon of San Francisco, California. Also surviving are the lights of Janet’s life, grandchildren Lee and Andrea Black. Janet is also blessed with many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and an especially long- time friend, Carol “Logi” Lindsay of Flagstaff, Arizona. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorine Potter.
Janet loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved to travel and visited much of the United States as well as several foreign countries. She was an outstanding, accomplished pianist and was soloist as well as accompanist for many local events, including the Mud Lake Mass Choirs ensemble in its annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah. Janet was a Christian with a strong faith and spent many hours in her later life studying scriptures.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
Following the services, friends and family are welcome to continue the commemoration at Janet and Oly’s home on Bear Island Drive.

Dear Bonnie;
I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I have a friend in Rexburg that is an avid obit reader and keeps me informed of the goings on up there.
In my mind, Janet will always be about 30 years old with her dark hair cut short around her neck and fluffy on top as was the style in those days. I will always remember her piano playing. As you know, I played the piano as a child, but was never very good at it, as neither of my parents played. When I would come to your house and see your mom play her grand piano, I was totally in awe. She was a real showman at it (you used to roll your eyes at her). After college, I took it up again and have taught my daughters to play and do some judging as well.
I am trying to remember the last time I saw you and I think it was about a year after graduation. I was up there in March when my mother died, and I saw Kari and Lori (both are GRANDPARENTS!!).
I would love to chat with you sometime.
My consolences to your family,
Peggy Tanner

Please accept my deepest simpathies for your loss. While I never met Andree, I feel as though I knew her in a small way and that would be through the spirit of her life that she imparted to Bonnie, a good and decent person, my friend . . . .

Dear Oley, Bonnie and Danny,
We are so sorry to hear that Janet has passed. I loved the video tribute to her and can even remember her that way. I feel bad that the years have passed and we have not seen any of you for such a long time. Even though we don't see you, you are in our thoughts often and know that this must be a very difficult time for all of you. I try to keep up through Renay and Margaret as best as I can. I know that Janet has been through a lot lately and that she has been a real trooper. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, get in touch with us some time. We will be thinking of you Monday but regret that we can't attend the service.
Love to all,
