Amy Thorne

Amy Ruth Kline Thorne, 54, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 20, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Amy was born June 29, 1962, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to William Edward Kline and Audrey Ruth Nemesh Kline. She grew up all over the world, including Africa, South Korea, Great Britain, and Okinawa, but　attended high school at the Grier School in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, graduating as Valedictorian.　She attended the University of Virginia from 1980-1984, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science, was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and played on the UVA women’s soccer team. She served her country as an Intelligence Officer for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1985-1995. On September 10, 1988, she married Stephen Daniel Thorne in McLean, Virginia. To this union were born two daughters, Audrey and Stephenie. After living in Fairfax, Virginia, and North Bend, Washington, Amy and Stephen made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Amy was a loving wife and mother, taking great care of her family and friends, and helping with her husband’s business. She was always the first to "rise" and the last to sleep. She served as coach for her girls AYSO and BYSO soccer teams, encouraging all to have fun and do their best.　She will be remembered as a selfless and devoted wife and mother. Amy attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church and a Bible study group through First Presbyterian Church. She was an avid runner, ran numerous races every year and could be counted on to "place" in her age group. She was a voracious reader and athlete and enjoyed monthly book club meetings as well as daily morning runs with friends. She volunteered at the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket every week. She enjoyed rock climbing, keeping fit, cooking, hiking, skiing, and especially being with friends and family. Amy is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Stephen Thorne of Idaho Falls; daughters, Audrey and Stephenie Thorne of Idaho Falls; mother, Audrey Ruth Kline of Reston, VA; mother-in-law, Emily Thorne of Heathsville, VA; sister, Elizabeth (George) Shoemaker of Berryville, VA; brother, Jeff (Lisa) Kline of Brisbane, Australia; and brother, Matthew Kline of Richmond, VA. She was preceded in death by her father, William Kline, and her father-in-law, Philip Thorne. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
