Amelia Hammond

AMELIA N. HAMMOND IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Amelia N. Hammond, 82, quietly passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was anxious to join her sweetheart of sixty-two years, Wayne, who passed away only three weeks prior. Amelia was born in Franklin, Idaho, on July 13, 1924, to Harold and Myrtha Lowe Kingsford. She grew up in Wapello, Idaho, and graduated from Blackfoot High School. She spent many hours helping her father with farmwork - always being careful to wear long sleeves, gloves and hats to protect her beautiful skin. She enjoyed spending time with extended family and especially loved her cousins. She married L. Wayne Hammond June 2, 1944, in Hamilton, Montana. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 2, 1949. Most of their married life was spent in Iona, Idaho, where they raised their six children. Later in life, they moved back to Idaho Falls. Amelia took pride in caring for her husband and children. She was very organized, keeping a meticulous home and flower garden. She was an excellent cook and her family will truly miss her wonderful pies and homemade rolls. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in presidency and teaching positions. She especially enjoyed visiting teaching and acquired many dear friends through this dedicated service. In 1970, she began working as a pharmaceutical technician at Walgreen's in Idaho Falls, later moving to HyWay Drug Store, where she worked until retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a sweet and caring person whom all loved to be around. Amelia is survived by her daughters, Janice (Melvin) Duehlmeier of Washington, UT, Bonnie (Garth) Gunderson of Menan, ID, Lorie (John) Mitchell of Kaysville, UT, a son, Richard (Donette) Hammond of Middleton, ID, 21 Grandchildren, and one sister, Bonnie (Gary) Wallace of Fullerton, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and two sons, James Wayne Hammond (who passed away one day prior to Amelia) and Steven L. Hammond. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007, at the Eagle Rock LDS Stake Center (2020 S. Charlotte Drive) with Bishop Mark McKay of the Idaho Falls Westview Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday before services from 9 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------- Condolences sent online: Bonnie & Gary Wallace riverrd@pacbell.net We love you all.
