WALTON Alvin “Almie” Orson Walton, 91, of Huachuca City, Arizona, died January 23, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson. He was born August 21, 1910 in Highmore, South Dakota, to Clarence S. Walton and Ora Valentine Lentz Walton, the second oldest of fourteen children. He attended schools in various places. He started working in 1925 cutting ice from Big Spirit Lake. He worked loading box cars on the Rock Island Railroad, worked in a creamery in Iowa, shoveled coal on the Milwaukee R.R. in South Dakota in the early 30's, helped run a family roller skating rink in South Dakota, and learned how to run movie projectors in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He entered U. S. military service in the 40th Field Artillery on March 25, 1941 at Camp Roberts, California, where he received six months basic training as a cannoneer. He received a back injury while on maneuvers on September 25th at Camp Roberts the same year. Alvin was honorably discharged on September 25, 1941. On March 25, 1942 he was called back into service. He went to the Rose Bowl for one week, then was sent to San Luis Obispo, California. In 1945, he was shipped to Fort Lewis, California. After being placed in the Medics, he was put into Special Service as a Projectionist running movies. He ran the first movie made of Ben Hur in 1929. He received an honorable discharge a second time on September 25, 1945 from Fort Lewis, California. In 1955, he married Lizetta Airhart at Idaho Falls. They were later divorced. He worked as a Projectionist in the movie theaters and had 25 years experience in that field. He also was a supervisor of yard maintenance at the VA Hospital in San Fernando, California before the earthquake of 1971. He was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and served as Sergeant at Arms. Surviving are:Son: Marvin Kent Walton, Idaho Falls, IDBrother: Murrel LeRoy Walton, Coos Bay, ORSister: Beulah J. Stary, Huachuca City, AZSister: Etha F. (Roy) Lester, Fall River Mills, CASister: Eva A. Hammer, Huachuca, AZSister: Lillian (Virgil) Scott, Shelley, ID 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his son, Benny Lee Walton; four brothers, Alfred, Allan, Melvin, and Harland; and four sisters, Laverta, Lavina, Hazel, and Melva. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2002, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines with Cory Brower officiating. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the services at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. [ Previous Obituary - Janet M.
