Alvin Glenn Dalley, 89, of Driggs, Idaho, passed away due to natural causes at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living facilities in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on January 4, 2016. Alvin was born on February 13, 1926, in Wilson, Wyoming. He received his education in Teton Valley and graduated from Teton High School in 1944. He served with the Merchant Marine Cadet Corp from 1944-1946 as a cadet midshipman. On June 18, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, LaJean Buxton, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1950. Honors received while at BYU were the Most Outstanding Athlete Award, captain of both the football and wrestling teams, and all-conference in both sports his senior year. Alvin returned to Teton Valley where he taught drivers education, health, math, social studies, and physical education while coaching. He started the wrestling program at Teton High School in 1958. He coached ten state championship wrestling teams. Alvin had a winning record of .964 with only nine losses in 254 dual matches. His teams won 98 consecutive dual matches. Alvin was Coach of the Year several times and was awarded the Gary Comstock Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the sport of wrestling. He was inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame in 1988. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1998. He served as Mayor of Driggs for 26 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. Many days you would find him floating the Teton River, hunting for jade, or driving the back roads of the valley. He is survived by his children, David (Nancy) Dalley of Inkom, ID; Gregg (Barbara) Dalley of Tahlequah, OK; Layne (Toni) Dalley of Idaho Falls, ID; Jim (Ann) Dalley of Pocatello, ID; Lisa (Patrick) Field of Albion, ID; Doug (Jeanenne) Dalley of Tetonia, ID; one brother, Francis Dalley of Arco, ID; 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaJean Buxton Dalley; parents, Claude and Elen Dalley; brothers; Wallace, Marvin, Edward, and Darrell Dalley; and sister, Nelline Allgood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 9, 2016, at the Driggs LDS Stake Center (225 N. First Street, Driggs, Idaho). The family will meet with friends Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the church. Burial will be in the Driggs Cemetery following the services, under the direction of Wood Funeral Home of Idaho Falls.
