Alvin Brunson

Clarence Alvin Brunson, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 12, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of congestive heart failure. Alvin was born August 19, 1929, in Fillmore, Utah, to Clarence Otto Brunson and Ruth Louise Hofer Brunson. He grew up in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School. Alvin served in the National Guard and in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in Germany during World War II. Alvin was an interpreter in Germany and was fluent in German. He received his training as a Machinist in the Army. On November 11, 1955, he married Lucy Gwendolyn Cox in Shelley, Idaho. They lived in Groveland, Ammon, and Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 6, 1999. Alvin was a longtime employee of the City of Idaho Falls as a Welder, Machinist, and Mechanic. Alvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a high priest in his ward. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, helping, working on genealogy, and spending time with his family. Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lucy, four sons, Terry (Linda) Brunson of Blackfoot, ID, Burdette (Tracy) Brunson of Darlington, ID, Clarence R. (Barbi) Brunson of Idaho Falls, ID, and Christopher (Brandy) Brunson of Hillsboro, OR; five daughters, Corein (Dan) Christiansen of Phoenix, AZ, Clairice (Dennis) Mechling of Idaho Falls, ID, Coleen (Don) Goreé of Edwardsville, IL, Celia (Thomas) Beasley of Riverton, WY, Carolyn (Ted) Neal of Yorktown, IN; two brothers, Melvin “Dick” (Millie) Brunson of Idaho Falls, ID, Owen (Inge) Brunson of Blackfoot, ID; and a sister, Winona (Hank) Crumb of Idaho Falls, ID; 55 Grandchildren and 65 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto & Ruth Brunson; a sister, Donna Renaud, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Idaho Falls LDS Sage View Ward, 1345 Clarence Drive, with Bishop Byron Nukaya officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Blackfoot American Legion Post 23 and Idaho Honor Guard.
