Alvin Earl Arave, 81, of Coltman, passed away April 3, 2018, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family.
Alvin was born December 22, 1936, in Idaho Falls, ID, to Wallace Earl Arave and Myrel Polson Arave. He grew up and attended schools in Shelley, ID and graduated from Shelley High School. He attended vocational school in Pocatello for electronics. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. Alvin continued his education and earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.
On June 13, 1956, he married Ida Christiansen in the Idaho Falls Temple. To this union were born five children, Christine, Valine, Ilene, Marie and Joan. Alvin and Ida made their home in Coltman, Idaho, where Alvin worked as a Electrical Engineer at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Alvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a lifetime of church service, including working with the youth, serving in several Bishoprics, on the High Council, Bishop and in the Stake Presidency. He also served a mission in Idaho Falls in the Family History Center. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and a director of National Instrument Society of North America.
Alvin enjoyed the outdoors. He especially loved fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and ATV riding. He also loved doing family history work. In 2002 he and Ida served in the Church and Family History Mission in Salt Lake City. He and Ida spent the last nine winters in St. George, Utah.

his loving wife, Ida Christiansen Arave of Coltman, ID;daughter, Christine (Allen) Quinn of Moses Lake, WA; daughter, Valine (Paul) Quinn of Midway, UT;daughter, Ilene (Joel) Trent of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Marie (Jerry) Thun of Montrose, CO; daughter, Joan (Kelly) Hale of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Arvon J. (Sandra) Arave of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Lance (Pam) Arave of Payette, ID; sister, Nadine (Charlie) Jones of Bremerton, WA; sister, Renae (George) Fraizer of Bremerton, WA.
22 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Myrel Arave, and his brothers, Delmar and Kent Arave.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Coltman LDS 2nd Ward, 12448 North 5th East, with Bishop Myron Creager officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
