Alma Hanson, Jr

ALMA HANSON, JR. IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Alma Hanson, Jr., 99, of Idaho Falls, died December 12, 2005, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice. He was born August 11, 1906, in Hyrum, Utah, to James Alma Hanson and Marie Aslagsen Hanson. He graduated from Driggs High School in 1926. From 1928-1930, he attended Ricks College. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1930-34 as a Yeoman 2nd Class. He served in the Idaho State Guard from 1943-44 and was then called back into active duty and served in the U. S. Navy from 1944-46. On May 26, 1939, he married Louise Jones in Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1946, they moved to Idaho Falls, where he worked as an accountant and also owned and operated Hanson Gas and Oil. He served as Local Commander, District Commander and State Commander of the American Legion and was a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center for 12 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as an Elders Quorum Teacher. His interests included oil painting, which he started at the age of 70, fishing and traveling. Survivors are: Daughter: Nadine (Douglas) Moore, Phoenix, AZ Son: John (Kathy) Hanson, San Juan Bautista, CA Brother: Edgar Hanson, Orem, UT Brother: Roy Hanson, Sugar City, ID Sister: June Riddle, San Diego, CA 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Melvin Hanson and a brother who died in infancy; and two sisters, Irene Mardal and Gladys Hanson. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
