Allyn Phillips

Allyn Ray Phillips, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 24, 2018, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Brio Health Care Services. Allyn was born March 29, 1931, in Roseville, California, to Emmett Phillips and Ruth M. Allyn Phillips. He grew up and attended schools in Roseville and graduated from Roseville High School. He also attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the United States Navy as an underwater photographer during the Korean War. On June 22, 1957, he married Joan Hickok in the Sunset Hills Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. To this union were born two sons, Mark and Roarke. Following the marriage, Allyn and Joan resided in Sacramento, CA, Portland, OR, Pittsburgh, PA, and finally Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they have resided since 1968. Allyn worked for Westinghouse, EG&G, Lockheed Martin and Rockwell, where he was awarded Nuclear Engineer of the year for his work on the M-1A1 Abrams Tank. He later retired from EG&G. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and skier. Allyn is survived by his loving wife, Joan Phillips of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Mark (Jodie) Phillips of Archer, ID; son, Roarke Phillips of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Celeste Snavely of Sacramento, CA; brother, George A. Davig of Dateland, AZ; and four grandchildren, Allyn, Briana, Chase, and Derick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Ruth Phillips. Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
