Alice Shurtliff

Alice Rhae Howell Shurtliff, 90, of Idaho Falls, overcame her battle with Alzheimers on April 29, 2016, surrounded by her family, friends and caring staff of Life Care Center where she had spent the last nine years.

She was born February 25, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Alton R. Howell and Leora M. Patten Howell. She grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Idaho Falls High School.

On February 9, 1944, she married the love of her life, Rex Smith Shurtliff, in Dillon, Montana. Except for two years living in Compton, California they made their home in Ammon. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was also an entrepreneur and started her own business, The Sugar Shell, which she owned and managed until she retired. She was President of the Women’s Soroptimist Club and co-captain of the Working Women’s Golf League.

Alice enjoyed golfing, cake decorating, horses, camping, and fishing. She especially loved her grandkids and spending time with them.

(Shellie) Shurtliff of Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Joanie (Todd) Stenzel of Twin Falls, ID Brother: Charles "Chuck" (Lorna) Howell of Idaho Falls, ID Sister: Carol (Jim) Lee of Idaho Falls, ID 14 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bob, Earl, and Bill Howell; and two sisters, Mary Hollibaugh and Florence Bottjen.
