ALICE MURDOCK QUAYLE
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Alice Mary Summers Murdock Quayle,
81, was born on September 22, 1922, in Ririe, ID, to George and Ivy Summers,
the youngest of seven children. She passed away in Idaho Falls on March
25, 2004.
Alice had a happy childhood growing up in Ririe. During her teen years
she spent the summers cooking for the hired hands at her father's dry
farms at Antelope, above Ririe. In high school, she participated in basketball,
sang in the choir, and played flute in the band. She graduated from Ririe
High School in 1941.
She was accepted into the nursing program at the Idaho
Falls LDS Hospital. At that time, the students were not allowed to date,
but in August of 1941, she met Bill Murdock at a roller-skating rink.
They began dating and their relationship grew even after he joined the
Army during World War II. On August 6, 1943, she and Bill eloped to Paris
(Idaho!) and were married. She had to keep this a secret from the nursing
supervisor until after she graduated in May 1944.
Bill and Alice had three sons, Michael, Stan and Rocky.
Alice worked as an OBGYN supervisor for several years at the old LDS Hospital,
then was offered the position of Operating Room Supervisor. She held this
position for over 25 years. In 1980, she retired from the hospital, and
with several doctors, opened the Idaho Falls Surgical Center. In 1985,
she retired. She and Bill bought a condo in St. George where they spent
their winters. Bill passed away October 6, 1998.
In 2001, she met Amil Quayle. What began as friendship,
turn to love and they were married on January 2, 2003. Amil and Alice
traveled, hiked, camped, and enjoyed each other's company. To know ALice
was to love Alice.
She is survived by her husband, Amil, her sons, Michael
(Renee) Murdock, Stan (Lorena) Murdock, and Rocky Murdock, all of Idaho
Falls, four grandchildren, Thomas (Nicole) Murdock, Amanda (Mike) Harp,
