ALICE OLSEN TAIT
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Alice Olsen Tait passed away June 15, 2006, after a courageous struggle with cancer. She was 88 years old.
Alice Muriel Nielsen was born August 1, 1917, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Mitchell Rasmussen and Sarah Elizabeth Turner Nielsen. She was the youngest of four children and always loved being the baby of the family. After she was born, the family moved to Clifton, Idaho, where Alice was raised. She also spent several years in Etna, Wyoming, with her parents and enjoyed riding her horse in beautiful Star Valley. Alice graduated from high school in Clifton and then attended and graduated from business school.
She married Urban D. Olsen April 9, 1939, in Oakland, California. They moved back to Clifton, Idaho, for several years, and in 1949 moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they raised their five children. Alice's life revolved around her children and she devoted herself to them throughout her life. She loved the family trips to their cabin near Mack's Inn in Island Park, Idaho. Later on, her husband, Urb, built her a cabin on Henry's Lake, and she loved both winters and summers there. She learned to snowmobile and enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for everyone who visited. Alice worked for Andrew Well Drilling in Idaho Falls as a bookkeeper and receptionist for many years. She was a marvelous cook and enjoyed collecting new recipes. Alice loved people and could always be found serving others. She had many wonderful friends in Idaho Falls and played Bridge as often as she could with them. She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After Urban's death in 1982, she married Edward Tait, and they enjoyed 21 years together. They spent their winters in Palm Springs, California, and their summers in Star Valley, Wyoming. Ed was an avid golfer and Alice learned to golf, but always preferred the kitchen to the golf course. She made life-long friends wherever she went and will be missed by her family, her friends, and all who knew her.
She is survived by her five children, Patricia (Edward) Alter of Salt Lake City, Utah, David Olsen of Star Valley, Wyoming, Steven Olsen and Rand (Beverlee) Olsen, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Nancy (Ben) Worth of Scottsdale, Arizona, a stepson, Doug (Karen) Tait of Arroyo Grande, California; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Louise Henderson of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Urban Olsen, her second husband, Edward Tait, a granddaughter, her parents, a sister, a brother, a stepbrother and a stepson.
Funeral Services will held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services. Following services, interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
