Alice Brinton Jones, 92, died November 11, 2011 at Fairwinds Retirement Center. She was born January 14, 1919 to Sara Edna Howe and Milton Huffaker Brinton at Victor, Idaho. She spent her childhood in Idaho Falls and later completed her R.N. Degree from the LDS Hospital Nursing School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Nursing personified the kind of person she was, as her goal in life was to give assistance whenever possible. On August 28, 1940, Alice married Rheim Magleby Jones in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were the perfect example of all that is ideal in marriage. Alice and Rheim lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Baltimore, Maryland; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City, New York; Galveston, Texas; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and St. George, Utah. Alice was active in the LDS Church and served as Ward and Stake Relief Society President for many years. She also served as MIA president, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and a teacher in the other auxiliaries. Studying the scriptures and teaching the gospel were favorites for Alice. She considered serving as the Matron in the Idaho Falls Temple as the highlight of her church service. She was an excellent executive and had the ability to delegate responsibility and earn the love and cooperation of her co-workers. The focus of Alice’s life was serving others. She was a volunteer member of the Coordinating Committee of the LDS Social Services for many years and designed a personal counselor program for unwed mothers. As Chairman of the Area Welfare Committee, she assisted with training sessions on how to use the bishop’s storehouse effectively, and was also a member of the Operating Committee of the Deseret Industries. In Civic arenas, Alice was President of the Bonneville County Medical Auxiliary and Chairman of the Idaho Falls Education Week, which hosted over 4000 people. She was a teacher for BYU/Ricks Adult Education Classes, was part of the relief team for the Red Cross during the Teton Dam Flood, and was a lecturer up and down the valley on such subjects as wardrobe, standards, leadership training, and Fascinating Womanhood. She was also honored to be the devotional speaker at Ricks College on occasion. Alice was president and parliamentarian of the Toastmistress Club and became a winner of the Toastmistress Speech Contest competition at the local and regional level and then competed on the international level. She published a book of histories for all the people on her 4 generation sheets, published a book containing the talks of her husband Rheim, and published life stories of herself and her husband. She loved reading and belonged to a Book Club, giving reviews on the Old Testament, Isaiah, and other great literature. Alice loved to be outdoors with Rheim. Together they enjoyed walking, swimming, golfing, and skiing. She loved science and learning how the world works. She studied everything she could, including the stars, birds, animals, wild flowers, trees, and the weather. She loved to garden and grow flowers. Alice always had a spirit of adventure, enjoyed exploring new territory, and was a goer and a doer in every sense. She was in her element when she was camping, and spent much of her life appreciating the natural wonders of nature. Alice often sewed and tailored her own clothing, was a gracious hostess, and created culture and beauty in her home. She was a loving and caring mother who always expressed confidence in her children. She was an exceptionally genuine person and everyone appreciated her ability to get to the bottom line quickly. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Howe Brinton; and three sisters, Amy Call, Nadine Bettilyon, and Geneve Scott. She is survived by her children, Judith Ann (Glenn) Hegsted of Idaho Falls, ID; Kathleen (Ronald) Hart of Soda Springs, ID; Rheim Brinton (Rebecca) Jones of LaQuinta, CA; Sharon (Kenneth) Turley of Idaho Falls, ID; and Susan Marie (Eldon) Larsen of Charleston, WV; as well as 34 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Brinton of Santa Maria, CA.
