Alice "Maxine" (Frisk) Wakley

Alice “Maxine” Wakley fulfilled her earthly mission on May 9, 2025. She passed away at Fairwinds Retirement Community, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born April 10, 1935, in Rigby, Idaho, to William L Frisk and Jane (Miller) Frisk. During WWII, the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho. When Maxine was about 7 years old, she sustained an eye injury. She had several surgeries during her stay at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her time in the hospital influenced her to pursue a career as a nurse.

Maxine graduated from Pocatello High School and attended Idaho State University Technical School of Nursing. She loved being a nurse, even though it was hard work. She enjoyed a long career working at several of the local hospitals and care facilities.

She married Howard D. (Bud) Wakley, December 31, 1960, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Maxine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Relief Society and as a visiting teacher for over 25 years. After she retired from nursing, she and Bud served an 18-month mission at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls. She and Bud took great pride in helping people to research their family history.

Her other interests included baking (especially bread), canning, and playing pinochle. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Iona.

Maxine will always be remembered for her willingness to help family and friends. She was ever a shoulder to cry on and an ear that listened.

Maxine is survived by her brother, Roy Frisk of Pocatello, ID; daughters, Brenda (Curt) Stewart of Idaho Falls, ID, Terrie Landes of West Richland, WA; grandsons, Christian (Zoe) Landes and Brendan Landes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Graveside services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Iona Cemetery, 4962 1st Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
