Alice Zora Bird Farnes, a longtime resident of the Idaho Falls area, passed away at the age of 85 on April 24, 2018, at her home of natural causes.
She was born March 12, 1933, to Warren Alvin Bird and Rozella Ruth Cook Bird at the family home in Milo, Idaho. She grew up attending the small three-room school at Milo for five years and then went to Rigby to finish her schooling, graduating from Rigby High School in 1951.
She met Lyle Farnes at their church and they danced together in several dance festivals, including Salt Lake City. They were married June 6, 1952, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They spent their first four years farming, then Lyle started employment at the INL site west of Idaho Falls. Lyle and Alice loved to camp, travel, go boating, 4-wheeling and cycling with family and friends. Yellowstone National Park was a favorite annual camping destination. They also spent many winters in Arizona during retirement. She held many positions in the church serving in the Primary, as Young Women President, and in the Relief Society Presidency. She and Lyle loved to go to the temple and felt fortunate to live close to the temple in Idaho Falls. They loved to visit LDS temples and traveled to many. Alice extracted over 200,000 family history names. She loved to work with ceramics and to crochet and quilt. She made baby shawls for all of the children and grandchildren in the family. Alice was an example of Christlike love and service her entire life. The family wishes to thank her nurse, Chris Hulse, and Aspen Home Health for the service they rendered. They would like to also thank the many family and friends for their love and kindness during the last few difficult months.
