Alice Day

Alice Naomi Markham Day, 90, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Simi Valley, CA, passed away on May 15, 2013, at her home. Alice was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 19, 1922, to Frank and Ruby Higgins Markham. The family moved to Oklahoma for a short time before they moved across the country to southern California, where they lived in the Los Angeles area. She attended schools in Oklahoma and Los Angeles. Alice married her true love, Billie Day, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She went to Beauty School and received her Beautician Certificate. She owned and operated her own beauty shop. As a Beautician she was always sporting a new hair style and/or color. She was a Beauty Specialist for Vivian Woodard. After selling her salon she went back to college, where she earned her teaching certificate to become a Beauty School Instructor. She then went on to work as an instructor for the California School district teaching Beauty School until the young age of 84. Alice was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Sister of the Eastern Stars, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, doll collecting, jewelry, all aspects of dancing, and taking cruises. She is survived by her nieces Carol (Danny) Ball of Idaho Falls, ID, Judy (David) Weitzel of Greely, CO, and nephews, Jim (Jerry) Vivian of Clinton, CT. She enjoyed her time with her great niece and great nephews along with great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Day; her sister, Hazel Markham; and her parents. The family will always be appreciative and grateful for the love and care from her special caregivers, Assisting Hands and En Compass Hospice. An extra special thank you to Melissa Guinn for all the love she readily gave to Aunty. A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) in Idaho Falls.
