Wilford Alexander “Alex” Martin, 94, of Swan Valley, Idaho, passed away September 24, 2014, at Peak Village in Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Hearts for Hospice.
Alex was born May 8, 1920, in Swan Valley, Idaho, to Hugh Caldwell Martin Jr. and Ilabelle Priscott Martin. He grew up and attended elementary school at Rainey Dell in Swan Valley and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1939. He served in the U. S. Navy Merchant Marines during World War II.
On December 4, 1942, he married Faye Elizabeth Madsen in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. To this union were born six sons, Doug, Dale, Paul, Brent, Delbert, and Tex. Alex and Faye made their home in Swan Valley, where Alex was a farmer and worked for the U. S. Forest Service for 20 years. Faye passed away on August 5, 2005.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a counselor in two Bishoprics, as Ward Clerk, High Councilman, and Stake Missionary, Scout Master, couched Youth baseball teams, and served as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple for ten years. He enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, hunting, camping, and riding horses. He especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play all sports.

son, Dale A. (Marian) Martin of Stoney Plain, Alberta, Canada,
son, Paul S. (Julie) Martin of Tetonia, ID,
son, Brent M. (Lynette) Martin of Shelley, ID, and
son, Delbert E. (Eleanor) Martin of Junction, UT.
22 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Faye Elizabeth Martin, twin daughters, Janice Kay Martin and Janet Fay Martin, a son, Clinton "Tex" Martin, two sisters, Ilabelle Porter and Margie Anderson, five brothers, Leo Martin, Clifford Martin, Wells Martin, Fuller Martin, and Delbert Martin, and a grandson, Matthew Martin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Peak Village for all the kindness shown to our father during his stay with them.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Palisade LDS Ward, 3109 Swan Valley Highway, with Bishop Terry Hulse officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
