Aleen Jensen

Peacefully sleeping in her own home, Aleen Jane Cook Jensen left this life on June 6, 2013, after a short illness. She was born February 4, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the only daughter of Thomas and Ellen Cook. She joined the family that included Ellen’s older children, Ralph and Arelie. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Rexburg, where Aleen grew up. After graduating from Madison High School, Aleen worked for the Employment Service in Blackfoot for four years. She left to attend BYU for one year. The Farmer’s Home Administration in Rexburg hired Aleen and she worked there for four years. Quincy Jensen swept her off her feet and they were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 2, 1952. The happy couple lived in Santa Barbara, California, while Quincy finished school at the Brooks Institute of Photography. After Qunicy’s graduation, the family settled in Ammon, where Aleen put her talents to good use as a wife and mother. She sewed, cooked, crafted, quilted, and supported her enterprising husband. They have three daughters: Judy (Kim) Anderson of Sheridan, Wyoming; Susan (Craig) Aston, who preceded her in death; and Lisa (Wes) Whipple of Naperville, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Quincy, her parents and her brother and sister, Ralph and Arelie. Aleen started working part time for the City of Ammon. She became acting City Clerk for about one year when she was appointed City Clerk-Treasurer. She held this position for 17 years. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in April, 2003, and found out that it had metastasized in 2011, but did not let that slow her down or dim her bright and happy spirit. She loved her scriptures and learning and studying new things. She is honored by her posterity as a loving Grandma and Great Grandma who was interested in all that they did. The family would like to thank the staff at Snake River Oncology for their cheerful and loving care of Aleen during her treatment. The family would also like to thank Hands of Hope Hospice for all they did to keep her last days comfortable. Funeral Services will at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Ammon LDS 3rd Ward, 2051 Avocet, with Bishop Jed Stanger officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery.
