Aldie Herbert Pike, 89, of Basalt, Idaho, passed away October 8, 2012, at his home, of natural causes.
Aldie was born April 16, 1923, in Padonia, Kansas to Russell Preston Pike and Cora May Braman Pike. He grew up and attended schools in Powhattan, Kansas, where he graduated from high school. He proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the U. S. Army during World War II.
On August 11, 1947, he married Mildred Marie Allen in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union were born six children, Diana, Aldie, Jr., Mitzie, Keri, Richard, and Vicky. They spent the early years of their marriage in Kansas, then moved to Idaho when Aldie was 30 and made their home in Basalt. Aldie worked as a farmer, as a laborer on Palisades Dam, in maintenance at the INL, as a musician, and postmaster in Basalt. He also owned and operated his own small engine repair shop.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various capacities over the years. He served as a Stake Missionary, Scoutmaster, and taught Elders Quorum, Gospel Doctrine, Inservice, and High Priest Group. He served two terms on the Basalt City Council, wrote articles and drew weekly cartoons for the Shelley Pioneer Newspaper and taught art classes. He enjoyed painting, drawing, drawing cartoons, playing the guitar, singing, wood carving, and gardening.

Son, Richard Pike of Basalt, ID;
32 Grandchildren, 86 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Floyd and Russell, three sisters, Alta , Dorothy, and Ruby, and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Sandy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Basalt LDS Ward, 823 North 675 East, with Bishop Clair Christensen officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
